Default Clear PVC Pipes instead of Copper Pipes

Hey guys. I had in mind to replace my silicone system with copper for a while but i just saw clear pvc and i think that stuff should be better cuz it prevents bacterial growth and its CLEAR! So i was thinking of how I should design my setup. I got a pic here of what i might need and linkages.

http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/pro...le+40+PVC+Pipe <<< linkage to the clear pvc. I will get the 1/2"

here are the 45 degree corners to move up to the block
http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/pro...D%2D45+Deg+Ell << again 1/2"

and here are quick disconnects because i got my radiator mounted on the door cuz it wouldnt fit anywhere else.
http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/pro...ings+by+Colder

however i heard bad issues with them disconnects. gimme feed back.

and finally here u go a picture of how my design should look like.

You did notice the MUST BE SOLD IN 10' INTERVALS right?

Which I'm sure is no big deal, since Tygon is the same way.

But read the rest of it, and how you have to specify the way to cut it, because of UPS shipping requirements.

You saw how expensive that stuff is, right? $6 per fitting and once you cement them in place they cannot be reused.

Otherwise, cool idea.

i dont mind buying ten feet. why would i cement it? I could use plastic ties to keep them where i want them to be. 30 bux for fittings only is not a big deal for me.

Typically, PVC isn't very watertight around the joints until you use PVC cement or plumber's goop ( ) as a seal. In other words, all of the 90 and 45-degree bends have to be cemented to the pipe.

I got goop so its all good. I dont mind all the money for the looks. But what do u guys think of my design?I might make it so that it seems like a square insted of two right angles. But making it like a square is gonna limit the pump from getting water fast enough. Y'all get what i'm trying to say?

Well, you're right, and that's why it's better to use tubing. The elbows are somewhat restrictive, and most people here that have replace them will tell you that they got better results without them.

The advantage to copper is twofold:
1) it is flexible, as in, it can be bent (the flexible kind, of course),
2) because it transmits heat, it adds to the total cooling.

(I'm going to try to used finned copper tubing, if I can find some)

Really, when you think about it, the clear PVC only has one advantage: it's clear.

I suppose that you could heat up some sections and bend them into shape, but I'm not sure that that's a good idea, unless you already know how.

Since that stuff is (IIRC) rated for fluid *just* below its melting point, I doubt it gets too flexible.

Might be fun to try if you have some left over though
