Hey all,
I just pulled my Maze2 out from about 6months storage at school. I didn't really notice it at first but the thing has really gotten darker and has a coating of some sort (I'm assuming its some sort of oxide coating.) Anyway, I built my new setup and all (before realizing the waterblock had the coating) and the temps were terrible. I was idling at around 53C or something like that. Reseated the block about 10 times with no effect, and none of the other components in the system were to blame. So I guess my question is, has anyone else had this bad of results with just this coating on the waterblock? I have since used a Calcium, Lime remover to remove the coating and restore it to its shiney copper state, but havn't had the patience to put it back on and redo the system again as it's kind of a pain. Basically I just want reassurance that my temps will be normal if I take the time to put it back on. ![]() Thanks in advance, Jason |

Hey, sounds like that dark coating was something else aside from oxide... Which usually starts to form a green-slimish colored film on the surface. It could be something else that was in the air that caused the reaction... What type of fluid did you have in there previously, maybe something from it+drying in air caused it... I just took my block completely apart and I was running about a 5:1 H2o/anti-F solution and saw nothing that would cause concern, I've had this block for a couple years. I don't think it's anything to cause a major concern over. You might wanna try a mildew remover/coating on it. It won't affect temps and will stop anything of sorts from forming on the surface...good luck!

Thanks for the info V12|V12.
I'm going to take some pictures of it to hope to give everyone a better idea of what i'm talking about. It should show nicely since about half the block was restored to shiney copper but the other half still has the coating on it. Good contrast. Can't do that till I get home from work though. You could be right about the mildew though, since I was just running normal water with no additives. hehe...oops. Thanks, Jason |

Copper tarnishes over time. My Maze2 did the same thing. Just lap the bottom a little and you'll be fine.

Lime away will eat off the tarnish pretty effortlessly with no lapping required.
Same with CLR
