Fan placement in Bongs?...

Why do peeple always fit the fan at the bottom?. is there a reason for it?. It blows air up through the Bong does'nt it?. as oposed to sucking it down through?. So would it not be easier to have the fan at the top drawing the air up?. it would save on electrical damage/shorting from water contact!...

Anyone know of any good links to some advanced bong articles?. not just basic setups, but experimentation into best showerhead type, fan placement, best diametre/size/height, noise suppression,ect...

Thanx! ...

The problem with that is that the fan would suck humidity through itself, as opposed to blowing clean air into the bong. If you live near a coastal city, you know what that'll do.

Just to expand on BigBen's point:

As it is, you will get "sprites" (inverted, random, rain ) out the top of the bong...

If you put the fan directly above the nozzle, it would make the sprites pretty much constant.

I used a bong for two weeks, and IMO, it wasn't worth the hassle.

...or the health risk.

i agree with heavy, bongs are usually quite large which imo makes them a bit impractical (hey i live in a college dorm space is precious here), you really need a lot of materials to complete them, but people who spend time making them good get a nice aesthetically pleasing cooling system, im not sure about the health risks though

I sussed it out earlier!, The fan would be drawing moist air through itself as well as sprites. not good for for the health!, of the fan that is! . the house I live in has gas central heating, it dries the air out something cronic!. so the humidity caused by the bong would'nt be life threatening in my case also you could always vent it out a window/whatever.

I think I'm gonna go bong rather than rad. I'm planing on putting a 220watt TEC in my maze3:1, and anything that'll cool water to below ambient temps gets my vote ...

Thanx for help! ...

I posted a link to a great bong setup on another forum a couple of weeks ago (titled "Ohmygod looky at this bong!!!" or something like that). That shows essentially how to make a decent CLOSED LOOP bong setup. As far as humidity goes, with a setup like he described, you could even set up the bong outside of your house if you wanted to and not worry about water contamination. The coolant is isolated from the bong water. All you need to do with a system like that is hose it out every once in a while and viola!

sounds interesting. the bong would likely need to be relatively larger to compensate for the heat added by the second pump, unless a turbo style pump was used (bong pump spins the impeller for the radiator loop). heh, that could even be an original idea?!

From what I've read since , adding a rad to a bong is a waste of time, the rad can do nothing but add heat (compared to the sub~ambient bong temps). you'd be better off just using the bong water to cool the CPU and scrap the Rad loop. not worth the extra pump required ...

I'm sure you can make a good bong sucking air through the top.
Search for Greedy Guido postings in http://forums.overclockers.com.au/ and you'll read the story of good bong made that way. (You'll have to register though)
