I don't know for sure if this post is at its place here, but here goes.
I run a dual boot system, Win98 and XP, this boot sector is on my first (old, small)disk. Now i bought a new HD WD800JB 80Gb. So i want to rip the old one out, but there's the boot sector, when i make the other one bootable Win XP won't boot , i think because there's no bootsector there. Both ide-ports are full , burner, dvd, 2 HD's. How can i replace the bootsector, or move it to another disk?

There are two ways that I have done it in the past with Win2k (yes they both use the same process)
1) Use Disk Cloning software to copy all the data from your smaller drive to your larger drive. Norton Ghost works great for this. 2) Start the install process for WinXP again but dont go throught the whole process! Simply stick your XP CD into the machine, tell the machine that you want to start a fresh install, and let it copy all the files to the HDD. Reboot the system. Once this happens it should have edited the boot record to give you three options now: Win Xp normal, Win98, and WinXP Install/Setup. Select the WinXP normal and boot into XP like usual. THEN, once in XP, go to your System Properties window (right click on My Computer and select Properties), select Advanced tab, then Startup and recovery button. Once in there select WinXP normal as your Default OS and click apply. You might want to clean up the leftover install files that XP makes during the first part of this process but it does work. Let me know if you need any more assistance. OF COURSE, Ghost would be the easiest ![]()

OHHHH, you havent made the switch yet!
![]() Well, then we are back to the same two choices then: 1) Software clone 2) Slave large drive to small, copy all contents, then tweak boot sector ![]() honestly, at this point it is MUCH easier to just clone the smaller disk to the larger one. Did your new HDD come with any software? If not, try going to Symantec's web site and see if you can download a trial version of Norton Ghost...... I think you can, not sure though. EDIT: No, there is no demo available on their web site HOWEVER I found a website that links you to a downloadable demo of the corporate version. Try that: http://ghost.radified.com/ghost_1a.htm
