Copper heatercores??

Can anyone recommend a copper heatercore for me?? even the make of car I can go find in the junkyard and rip it out of?? I have and Alu heatercore and need to get a (cheap hopefully) copper core to go with my MCW 462-U block(cant risk galvanic corrosion) I will probably be getting. Even if I dont get the block I would like to have an all copper setup as from what I have read on all accounts it seems to be the better choice performance wise. Any ideas are muchly appreciated!!

If you give me dimensions, I'll give you a list of car models.

Just remember that hcores are usually 2 in thick, that you'll need to allow 1 in for the shroud and another inch for the fan.

For $60-70 you could always get a Black Ice Extreme r2 ... maybe less if you look around. They are a decent performer, though they need some good air flow (1@12V or 2@5-9V 120mm fans) across them. They are good for tighter spaces, though. If you want a super-silent system, probably a larger heater core would be better, and BB2K seems to be the heater core guru around here.

hey bigben2k I am looking for a heatercore that is 6-7 inches wide, 2+ in thick(more is better up to 4in) and 10-16 inches long. Hoping to run with the theory that a larger heatercore means less fan noise and better cooling. Also if you have any thoughts on my existing Alu core causing galvanic corrosion in the anodized MCW462-U I would love to know.

the other idea i'm tossing around is two possibly three heater cores all linked up with a bigger pump. So if you have any ideas on some smaller, all copper cores( I guess thats copper tubing with alu fins?? copper fins would be sweet if such a thing exists though!) please dont hesitate to pass those on as well!

I've got one model that's 11 1/4 by 6 1/8 inch, and it's 2 1/2 inches thick. Model# 2-144

There's also 4 models that are 10 3/4 by 6 1/8, also 2 1/2 inches thick. Model 2-148, 2-205, 2-417 and 2-422. They're all for General Motors vehicule.

The Grand Prix was very popular, that's probably your best bet. The Caprice was a cop car, so that might be easy to find too.

I don't know which ones are Alu and which are copper. You'll have to go to your auto part store to check it out.

i got a nice copper heatercore, it's from a BMW (2000)

got it on ebay for $15CDN

it's about 3" thick

so go check on ebay

Does that BMW heatercore have tubes, or did you have to somehow put barbs on it?

My database shows
BMW: 2-772
7 1/4 by 10 7/8 by 1 5/8, with o-ring connections, called "Valeo fit".

for 5 series (E34), 1989 through 1995.

hey bigben I just talked to a parts guys in town and he told me that I could get an ALL copper heatercore including fins for 40 plus tax he said it was from an older chevy truck any ideas on which truck that might be so I can go find it in the junkyard????

Look for:
Chevy: Astro, Safari, Blazer, Jimmy, Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon, El Camino, Caballero, GMC Sprint, any GMC van, any GMC truck (medium/heavy duty) of any series, S-10 or 15, Sonoma or Typhoon.

it was 1/2 tube connecters

oh and it has them on each end
