I’m building my w/c at the moment, and I need to choose a pump. Although i would like to get an Eheim, I can neither afford, nor fit it into the reservoir (I’m going to run the pump submersed). I thought around the 1000 L/h mark (or do I need more / less) would work pretty well, but I’m unsure of which brand i should buy. The way I’m building the system, the head on the pump would be a max of about 10cm (probably less). The entire system (well as much as possible) will be made using 16mm electrical conduit (which has a 12 mm internal diameter) and it will cool both my 1.8a P4 and my Gf4 Ti 4200 in a series arrangement.
I am thinking I will probably get one of these brands: Eden (I like how it has got 16mm barbs; it will most likely be pumping directly into the radiator, which has 16mm barbs) Heto : (the URL is so long that it gets demented when i try to make a hyperlink to it) go here and select 'Heto, Centrifugal Water Pump, 2800' (I’m a bit wary; they seem very cheap in price, but the look pretty funky) PondMaster (They seem to be a division of Danner Co, who seem to also make one of the pumps that everyone recommends) out of all of these companies, i only have experience with Eden, i got one of there 104G pumps (240 l/h) and it was whisper quiet (and really small), and it was strong enough to cool my Athlon. If you can suggest a different good pump, I would be happy to know, and very grateful if you could tell me where to pick one up in Australia. Thanks for everyone’s help! |

if the Eden pumps have what you're looking for (good power, small size, submersible, inexpensive) and you have satisfactory experience with them, then get another

I would say the mag drive. Danner makes mighty fine pumps, and the magnetic drive is as quiet as can be. Whatever you may decide to get, I'd cheak here first: http://www.aquatictech.com/pumps.html
Cheapest prices I've ever seen. Nice folks too. Good luck ![]() |

Judging by the prices, thats in america, and in australia we have 240v. All three of the pumps are mag drive. I think i will either go with the pond master, or the Eden, depending on what i can find at the local aquarium shop. |

The only problem with the Danner is that it can leak around the impeller cap/input. Easy fix though, remove, lay a bead of silicone, and put back on.

one thing i noticed was the Heto Centrifugal was 35watts while the Danner was only 20watts... that's almost twice the heat, and you're gonna have it submersed in your water... just something to think about, i'm not sure how much difference it makes overall in your temps.

Well considering the price range I would recommend Danner. You can get them cheap and they provide high flow. I have the 700gph.
The only negative I have heard about the Danners would be the housing leaking. Well its real easy to fix. Just take some rtv/marine goop and seal it up. It won't matter though since your wanting to put it into a res. |

Well I just picked up a Hagen Aquaclear 402. I've heard there pretty decent. I'll try it and see.
