What do you mean by huge? Even large MagDrive pumps should be fine. There was a lengthy thread about this on HardOCP a while back. IIRC damage from magnetic feilds was unheard of.
Here one way to find out though. Plug in your pump with coolant just looping through it (intake connected to exhaust). Turn on TV. Hold up to the TV. If you see distortion thats a bad thing. In my case my Eheim 1250 (30watt pump, so yes thats big) had no effect whatsoever on the picture. Even now its mounted just inches from my HD with no trouble. |

ok then what about the fact that it affects my moniter from a foot away through a 2mm thick sheet of steal. could this be due to the fact it is an outdor pump and maybe it isnt suppresed. Rc car motors have suppresion capicitors on the terminals! but does this have anything to do with my pump?
I also tryed the compass trick and found that it pointed at my pump from as far a one foot away again. What did i brake if this is the case as i am using my brothers PC

Steel doesn't block magnetic fields very well but thats still too strong for my tastes. From the sound of it, that thing is huge. Could you set it in your closet or something and run the tubes from your PC?

Heh, can you ruin a monitor/TV by having the magnetic field too close? I don't want to have a purple monitor.

its a pond pump and it isn't shielded at all all it is is normal mag drive pump in a huge block of eboxy! Oh and it draws 65W just to do 600 l/h so i will be aquiring a eheim pump soon!!! thanks for all the help guys and will soon be back on my pc!!
I would like to dedicate this to the modem that sacrificed it's self to defend the rest of my ps by acting as a magnetic shield ( i don't know how!!!)

Another easy test to see if houseing the mag pump inside of your case is to leave a floppy with data on it leaning next to the pump while the pump is running. See if you can read from the floppy after leaveing it like so for a day or so.

BE FREAKIN CAREFUL with pumps in your case, My monitor blew out, and ,my hd got currupted, so i had to backup and re-format all thanks to my pump I think, if your worried about it, surround the res with some aluminum or steel, and connect the shielding to the case via a wire.
