Newb: Little giant 2-md-sc vs. Iwaki MD20rlt

heloo i am pretty new to these forums...
im looking to get into watercooling for the first time and my goal is optimum performance
ive read around different forums and basically concluded that a high-flow pump will yield better temps in the end. id like to keep the cost of the whole system >250 and im considering theses tow pumps.

Iwaki MD20RLT
and
Little Giant 2-MD-SC

anyone had experience with theses pumps?
btw i already read the pump roundup thread, just trying to decide between these two pumps.

Hi m3_arun and welcome to the forums. I would go with the Iwaki due to the fact that the Little giant is rated at 109watts where as the Iwaki is only 52watts. With the perfomance of the two pumps being almost equal you'll probably have a cooler running system with the Iwaki.

Also, theres another pump ive never heard of called Gen-x. any one heard of this pump? is it reliable/better than the iwaki.

You might want to consider the MD20RZT high head/pressure model, especialy if you plan on multiple blocks(GPU&NB) and a lot of tubing. it's better to have a pump that will maintane 3+GPM than have one that'll drop more unless pumping 'wide open'...

I'd like to see them both tested to see how well the RLT holds up (GPM wise) when restriction is added, compared to the RZT, cause I'm only guessing at the mo' ...

PS, I believe the only difference between the RLT&RZT is the 'impellor' and 'impellor housing', it might be worth ordering a different model replacement impellor&housing if possible for testing and optimising the setup. I certainly will if I get round to saving up the £165 it costs for a 20 series IwakiMD in the UK

, for that price I'll have to look into ordering from Stateside...

I've got a Little Giant 2-MDQ-SC, and I think it's great. The thing to keep in mind is that it is quite large (10 inches long) and it does put out a fair amount of hot air, which I haven't solved yet (still assembling).

I got it because it was cheaper ($40, lucky buy!). I would only get an Iwaki if the price was pretty low, and if I needed something more powerful (which I don't, right now).

I'm shooting for 250 gph, but the heatercore will probably take it below that. Once I go with the dehumidifier and take the heatercore out, I should be back up there.

well the thing is im not really going to run a high-restriction system... just a heatercore and a cpu-block...
i just want to maximize flow i thought the 20rzt would be a little bit too much...
im thinking about micro-channel CPU block from cathar.

The "Z" series is the way to go. they are hard to come by though and are more $$$ than the "L" series.

I've got a Little Giant 3-MD-SC in my external enclosure. Its a monster, but it works quite well. Its too large to go in most cases, which is one of the reasons why I built an external enclosure for my watercooling gear. It also puts out a fair ammount of waste heat.

I'm not clear about the 100 volt part though. What do you power the thing with?

The only thing I could find on the www.iwakiwalchem.com site was the WMD-20RZ.

Does anyone know what the "X", "L" and "T" designators in the part number mean?

does anyone have an idea of the actual temp difference for this pump, say vs. an eheim or via aqua or something?
is it really worth the money for a single-heatercore, single-cpu block inline system?

Of course not. Spending any money on watercooling never pays off for itself!

You might be able to run your CPU a little bit cooler which will make it last a little bit longer, and you'd make your computer a little quieter, but once you put a dollar value on those, then take into account the added risk factor (leak), then you're out!

With such a powerful pump, you might be able to get your cpu temp to drop a degree or two, maybe (depends on the block).

If you're considering Cathar's White Water block, then you would do very well with pretty much any pump. You don't need an Iwaki, nor a "Little Giant". I wouldn't bother with the overpriced Eheim, and I'd stick with the basic selection that you can find in the Forums.

I've only got a Little Giant because I'm getting into making a waterblock. Otherwise, I'd certainly jump at the chance to get a White Water block, and I'd probably use a Rio or Danner (with mod) pump with it.
