If I had it to do again, I would just get the MAG drive and forget about it.

I'm happy with my Danner 5. One thing though, Danners need to have the impeller housing sealed with silicone. Otherwise they will leak if subjested to a lot of back presure. Here'sHere's my rig. Its really easy to seal, just a bead of silicone around the housing will do.

Actually, mag drive is a kind of pump, and both Danners and Maxi-Jets are mag drives. I'm running a maxi 900 (200GPH) and I haven't had any problems. The only real downside to a maxi-jet is that the fittings are non-standard sizes. The output is slightly smaller than 1/2" and the output is really, well, large. Other than that, this pump has been working as well as I can hope. The Maxi-Jet line does have a top GPH of 295 (the 1200), so if you want a high GPH pump, Danner seems to be the only choice of the two.

But are they quiet? (not meaning to thread-jack!)
I just read an article of quieting down a Via, and the guy said that "great, not it can't be heard over my 120mm fan"!!! I was thinking that I wouldn't hear a pump at all, I mean no nothing. Are mag drives this, or Hydor or anything else? BTW, here's a great place to get Danners, real cheap: http://www.aquatictech.com/pumps.html |

Danner is the manufacturer, Mad drive is the model type, magnetic drive is the type of pump, it uses induction to spin the impeller, so there aren't many mechanical parts in this thing at all. I had a Mag Drive 3, great pump, very quiet, reliable, I would definitely recommend this pump.
