It sucks it in where you can screw a hose barb in... and spits it out the top (well, unless you turn it, then it'd be the right or left side).
Just take your pump and barb to Lowes or Home Depot and go up to someone in plumbing and say... I need stuff to make this work.

I was going to run this submerged but realized how friggin Huge the powercable was and how much heat it prolly puts out in the end into the water. HHow do I fix the impeller on the Mag Drive again? Sealing something? I'm sure something's going to leak.

doing the impeller mod is a little tricky. if i could do a search i could find it for you on the hardforum, but i cannot. just take out the whole impeller assembly, and you will notice that the impeller can travel a tiny bit before it "catches" and actually turns. you need to glue it so it doesn't do this. careful not to glue it to the shaft, where it wont' turn at all. kinda hard to explain, just use common sense, and think about what will happen before you do anything. |

Don't do the impeller mod. it is very rough on the pump when it starts up. Someone designed the impeller like that for a reason now didn't they.
When the pump first starts, it has trouble getting going because of the water sitting still. The impeller starts to turn, but part of it "winds up" . When it is done "winding up" it goes full forward and the pump beging operating normally. This hhappens in a few seconds If you stop the winding up, the pump may never start, or it may run slower and work harder (producing more heat and shortening the life of the pump) |

I haven't done this mod personally, so I have no experience with whether or not it's a good idea. But if you want to try it and have a backup plan, you can find replacement MagDrive parts here - http://www.aqua-mart.com/show.pl?cmd...&subcatid=118.
The impellers aren't expensive. If you don't like the results of the mod, a repair won't cost you very much. |
