I have to admit, I'm not too big of a fan of RTS games, but Warcraft 3 was entertaining for quite a while. The bad part was that once you got to a certain level of skill in the ladder games on battle.net, everyone used the same strats every game and it got old really quick.
The expansion adds a ton of new units, abilities, and tactics to the mix meaning that every game is wildly different. I have to admit, playing this on the warforge (since I wasn't lucky enough to be tapped for the beta), I've had more fun than I have with any RTS previously. It is worth taking a look at if any of you are into this kind of thing.

Warcraft 2 was the main reason I set up a Lan. It had simple enough controls that my wife could play w/o it getting to her arthritis too bad, yet it was challenging enough mentally that she didn't get bored. She also got a kick out of changing the sound files and not telling me. Mostly she liked the fact that she could play along side me against the computer.
She waited and Jones'd for Warcraft3. I got too busy. When it finally came out, she was in line at the store that morning. I managed to get a couple of hours in everynight for a couple of weeks while we played through the game. Since then I think we've only played a few times, and have been teaching my nephews strategy. The tutorial is written well enough that my impatient 6yo neph. did excellent. With any luck, the housing market will slow down up here and we'll have some time to play again, but the way it's going, the expansion pack will be in the bargain bin by then. OT-overtime is a wonderful thing when you see your paycheck. But really shi**y when it puts you up 3 or 4 tax brackets. ![]()

Dude ... my wife doesn't like playing me very much because I stomp her. She's not very good at these games, so it's hard NOT to do it, and I usually find myself doing the most insane strats and STILL winning. Luckily, in the expansion you can set up a handicap for good players ... I've been playing at 60% and we seem pretty even. It means my archers only have 156 HPs each (they don't stand up to much anymore), but it's at least even.
Don't pay for it yet because its in beta. Download the warforge loaders and the beta patches (links are on irc.elite-irc.net), and you can play it for free. If she likes the original, she'll love the expansion.
