I had a few more questions that I wanted to ask people more experienced with water cooling first before I did it.
first is I want to water cool my video card as well as my CPU's, however i'm using a YY cube case which has very little clearance over the tops of my expantion cards so I can't run the lines that way and will have to run them towards the front of the case around the card that way, what I wanted to know is if anyone knows how easy is it to change the fittings on the Danger Den GeForce4/Radeon 9000/9700 Pro Block, are the just threaded in with teflon tape and easy to remove or something else since i'll need to change one fitting with a 90deg fitting? second question is is there any place that sells hard drive water cooling blocks with 1/2" fittings, the entire system is gona be 1/2 but the only HD block I could find was 3/8 and I don't really want to restrict the flow down to 3/8 at the HD's if I don't have to, also if there are no 1/2 ones how much would resticting it down to the 3/8 effect the overall performance of the system? third question is I was planning on going with the Black Ice Xtreme 2 radiator and running it reservoir > pump > radiator > CPU 1 > CPU 2 > video card > HD > reservior, would I be better off getting 2 Black Ice Xtreme's instead and running it reservoir > pump > radiator 1 > CPU 1 > video card > radiator 2 > CPU 2 > HD > reservoir, or would it really not make a significant difference either way, eventualy i'm planning on going back to a single CPU on my next uprade as well so if it's not gona make a significant difference i'd rather just use the single radiator since it's easier, but wanted to check here first. |

1) I have a YY cube, radeon 9700, and the danger den gpu waterblock as well, but there appears to be plenty of room to route the tubing over the card without modifying/replacing the fitting that came on the waterblock. I haven't actually put all this stuff together yet since I'm modding my cube right now, but I find it interesting that you don't think there's enough room to do this. I think as long as you're using ClearFlex or Tygon tubing, you shouldn't have a problem.
I was planning on putting a "Y" splitter in the line and letting the cpu and gpu get it's own supply of water without being pre-heated by other components, and then recombining the two on the output side. You haven't mentioned which pump you'll be using. 2) On the hard drive cooler, I was also going to do that, but I couldn't find any commercially available hard drive waterblocks made from copper. 3) I'll be going PUMP > RAD > RES > CPU/GPU > PUMP... |

the pump i'm gona be using is the Hydor L30 (320GPH).
when I looked at it it looked like there was maybe 3/4" between the top of the card and the cover which isn't really much bigger than the outside dia of 1/2 tubing, was more concerned with the bend radius on the tubing being able to really bend around thay corner properly, I plan on using the tygon tubing, but haven't actualy ordered it yet so I don't know yet exactly how tight it can bend. even using that big case it's hard to fit everything in, i've modeled it up in 3d already and both the radiator and resrvoir I had to mount externaly (when using the black ice extreme 2) because I couldn't really fit them inside. |
