Default pelt wire polarity does it matter which is which??

can I use the pelt upside down so red goes to ground and ground goes to power?? I usally have it one way but installed it so noww the red needs to go to ground so the coldplate freezes.. just want to make sure this has no bad effect

There will be some power dissipation in the leads of the TEC. Some of the heat resulting from that power dissipation will be conducted into what is now the 'coldside' of the TEC. This will reduce the ability of the TEC to cool the CPU.

The degree to which this is a problem will depend on the gauge of wire connected to the TEC, and how short the connection is between the body of the TEC, and what should be thicker wire going to the power supply.

I'd recommend turning it around.

well its working just as it did before right now even better as the clamping pressure is now stronger. others have said there is no diff really at all.

I forgot, you're using a 172 Watt TEC at 12V right?

In that case the current draw is small enough that the power dissipation in the TEC leads is fairly small.

This is a more important issue with something like a 226 Watt TEC running at 12V.

Well, all else being equal, the temps should be a little better with the TEC reversed.

I'd guesstimate that about 0.8 Watts/foot is being dissipated in the TEC leads, and it might make 0.5C difference in your temperatures if you reversed the TEC.

Worth it?
