Default Maze 2 Mounting

Hi,
I've recently installed a W/C system in my PC (DD Maze 2, DD Heater Core and Eheim 1250, 1/2 inch tubing/fittings) and have noticed something about my block.

It seems to be different from every other Maze 2 block I've seen pictures of online. The inlet barb is not in the centre it's most definitely placed further down (closer to the outlet barb). I bought two of the blocks (for SMP in the future) and both blocks exhibit the same barb placement.

This has me puzzled. Should the mounting position (with outlet at the top, or at the bottom) make any temperature difference? Can anyone using the same style Maze 2 block tell me how the have it mounted?

My temps are about 43c full load with a T-Bird 1Ghz @ 1.278Ghz @ 2.3 Volts (114 Watts). Should my temps be lower? The heater core is using a 120mm Panaflo M1A fan which is shrouded and sucking through the core. The difference between 7volt and 12volt operation is maybe a degree or two. I currently have the WB mounted with the outlet at the bottom.

Any thoughts would be welcomed.

No pics I'm afriad, no digi-cam. ^_^;

EDIT: Ambient temp is about 21c for the room and 24c for the motherboard.

I'd suggest outlet at the top to help prevent an air getting trapped, what's your water temp?

By dipping a thermometer in my filling/air trap t fitting (which is the hottest water, after the waterblock and pump - before the radiator) it reads about 24-25c.

The heater core used to get warm before I put a shroud on for the fan, now it feels just about room temp.

I took the block off and reapplied the AS and screwed the nuts up as tight as they would go. No temp difference.

I'll flip the waterblock and see how it fairs, shame I have to drain the system to do so. ^_^;

Thanks

BTW, I clocked it down to 1.2G @ 1.94 (76 watts) and it keeps the proc at 34c load.

haha that is because the newer version maze 2 is like that. The barb is slightly off from the center. And you should have the oulet at the top its the recommended way of mounting.

yeah thats easy to mess up, i believe the new version works fine regardless of position, but the one that i bought is the older type. on thier page thier instructions say pretty clearly how to mount it. the difference for me was about 20c when it was positioned wrong! learned my lesson tho, read the damn directions
