anyone know if they sell "Sound Card" activated cold cathodes seperate from the actual cold cathode? all the ones i've seen (one, two) come with the cathode.

thanks Yo-DUH_87, but there has been pretty bad (imo) reviews for these since it uses a mic, so the speakers/bass needs to be pretty loud for the device to work and doesnt work too well with folks with loud cases. (it'd also be nice to have my own light show when gaming w/ headphones
![]() i've asked directron if they sell the "drivers" seperately but they said i'll have to buy the kit (10" CC w/ sound-card activated "driver").

Yeah, sorry about that.
It sounds like sunbeam has a patent on a device that takes a soundcard output and flashes a cc to the beat, which stinks, because it sounds like sunbeam has done an utterly duff job of making such a product, if you believe the reviews. If you look at the sunbeam website, however, there is little to no information avalible on the soundcard activated inverter, so go figure! For the price SVC is offering their sound inverters at, I may just get one and see if I can hack it into working well ![]()

sounds like a cool project. my electronics skills are only what i remember when taking an electronics class in a vocational school (for HS credit), but never learned anything except how to color-code resistors
![]() if you do go forward with this project, please post back in this thread or (if you remember) gimmie a PM will ya ![]() after seeing that site (SVC), the prices for their CC's are pretty cheap. about $23 shipped for 2x12" UV + sound activator. SVC is also supposed to be a pretty reputiable company as i've seen them mentioned several times on other message boards like fatwallet with no negatives in the threads. [edit] ok. i bought 2 x UV CCFL + sound activated module for $23.26 shipped. not too bad considering local shops sells these CCFL for $20+tax. thanks for the link to SVC, now my wallet is even more green-deprived ![]()

I've ordered from SVC before, three times.
The first time everything went well. The second time, they hadn't refined their new CCFLs enough, so I had a couple of bad 12" UV tubes, but they quickly sent me replacements (and I ended up being able to fix the old parts ![]() The third time, I ordered 6" blue CCFLs (with dual inverter), and they sent me 4" instead. Now they want me to send them back these 4" tubes (and inverters), before they send me the right ones and they'll credit me the return shipping ![]() [edit]Looks like they're going to ship me the right parts right away: that's the kind of good service I expect from SVC.[/edit] The inverters are designed for one size of tube, and one size only. I think SVC is actually a distributor of these CCFLs, to many of the on-line shops we know. I've seen them in a few different reviews, coming from various shops: some are re-branded, but it's the same product. Last edited by bigben2k; 07-15-2003 at 07:44 AM. |

got back my uv replacements and was able to test the sound module. it isn't as bad as i thought (for not being directly hooked up to the sound card)
i made a little video clip of it in action. i was tapping the plastic window of my Lian Li PC65 side panel. the black thing i was tapping was a speaker. the sound module is located under the floppy drive. you'll need the divx codec to view the file (made with divx 5.0.5)
