I was wondering how to make a 4pin to 3pin adapter. from what i've gathered on the net, would this be the right procedure:
4pin molex (female) (yellow, blk, blk, red) 12v, gnd, gnd, 5v 3pin (female) (blk, red, yellow) gnd, 12v, rpm do i just match up the 12v and gnd Code:
4pin 3pin 12v¯¯¯¯¯\/¯¯¯¯¯¯gnd gnd_____/\______12v empty empty empty this is what i thought but a picture at svc shows different (12v --> gnd, gnd-->12v. 4pin -> 3pin)

yup, you've got it right. and if that fan has a rpm monitoring wire, just connect that to the 3rd pin on the 3pin plug.

I think that pic is wrong. I'm looking at my 3pin connectors on my homemade 4pin->3pin adapter as well as on the 3pin fans, etc... 12v wire goes in the middle and ground goes in the side.

just a word of caution, before making the adapter based off of what someone here (myself included) may tell you because of their personal pc, check the guide that came with your motherboard. the wiring may actually vary from board to board, i've got two amd systems that i'm working on right now, & the 3-pin layouts are different on the two of them.

Thanks for the tip. i'll have to remember that next time i use the mobo 3pin but this adapter will actually be connected to a rheobus (enermax's 6 fan + 2 display)
