what psu you guys recommend?

Well as i have just sold my Q-Tec 550W psu along with my epox 8rda3+ and xp1700 cpu, im wanting to start again, but with a good psu unit, the only problem i have is which one.
i have read the amandtech review about the psu's but i wondered if you guys and gals, could tell me what you are using.
i read in the review that the 3.3v and the 5v lines are the more important so i gather i have to have a good psu for those lines..
any sugguestions or comments?
thanks for the help!
ps. my plan is to buy a barton 2500+ and a nf7-s rev 2 board and use them with my corsair xms 3200LL memory (1 gig of) and use it with my 9700 pro, when i get it back.. im also thinking of buying a thermaltake xaser 3 case, as i had a xaser 2 case and i was impressed by its cooling and ease of putting it together. any further sugguestions? thanks for the help!

Antec TruePower 550W is an outstanding PSU ... I am in LUV with mine, hehe.

I love my 300w fortron. it uses a 120mm thermally controlled fan so its very quiet. I'd also recommend the new seasonic Super Silencers with their rather nice 78% efficency, I hope to get one of them soon.

i thinking of going to either an antec true power 550W psu or the antec trueblue 480W psu, but im unsure of the differences between the two psu's, obvously the power is slightly different, but other than that, whats the gag? oh and the price is £15 cheaper as well!

Abits NF7 mobos (and all other nforce2 mobos probably???) use the +12v line to power the CPU, so the +5v rail is redundant as far as being the 'most crucial rail'. I'd go for an Antec true power (I did!! ) because they have a voltaged sensed & corrected +12v rail, also their +12v rail is independant from the +5v rail. Most other PSU's have the +5v & +12v 'tied' together so that the current won't increase for the +12v unless the +5v has a heavy load on it (which it won't without a +5v CPU usage). Antec all the way people!! ...

I second that!!, my 550watter is good for +12v CPU mobos', and +5v CPU mobos' as well ...

Default i know this might sound stupid...

but would i really need a 550W psu or would a 480W model be more than enough?
is there any major differences between the true power 550W and the trueblue 480W model? cos if i dont need the extra couple of watts, i will be able to save a little bit of money!

If you would like to use Peltiers in the future, what's needed to power pelts is not (only) Watts, but rather the Amperage the PSU can push at 12V DC.

For a nice ATX PSU that pushes 12V @ 32 Amps, try the Sparkle Power 550W . It is primarily meant for a dual CPU mobo, but comes with an adapter for regular ATX connector.

I have been using one for the last 6 mo, powering a 226W pelt plus all hardware in the computer with no problems. IMHO it's the best there is, it costs around US$ 100, and sure beats having to use a larger case and an extra PSU.

One piece of advice tho; the molex connectors where an high powered pelt will be connected, need to be filled with dielectric grease to prevent burn out caused by constant microscopic electrical arcing that occurs at such high currents. It surely will melt down the connector over time if not taken care.

Best to solder a nice set of heavier gauge wires in the 12 V output of PSU itself to prevent any problems.

Just to chime in, I've got a Sparkle 400W (same "real" manufacturer as the Fortron brand) and it works very well although it is loud.

well the only thing that might change it for me then is that i dont really think i might be 'water cooling' my cpu.. i prefer air as its cheap and can be good enough for most things, i would have considered water cooling as it would be better to keep things cool and perhaps last a fair bit longer than doing it by air..
so would it still be worth the extra ££££ for the 550W or not really?

I have the 480 watt Antec True Power great power supply .
I don't see any need to go for a 550 unles you have pelts or dual cpu

its got Antec True Blue for the 480W and then Antec True Power for the 550W.. i was just making sure..
heres the link as this is where i can get them from

The one i have is only different to the true blue is that it doesn't have the blue led fans.

Depends on the price difference realy. True Powers are good (True Controll are the latest I think), there are some that are cheaper but not up to scratch, I'm not sure what True Blues are, sounds like a True Power with some bling~bling added ...

Only reason I got a 550watter is because I want it furure proofed. I brought an Ennermax 350 on the advice that A: Ennermax were good (overpriced and living off of their [previous] good reputation), and B: 350watt was all a AMD CPU needed (they never saw the radions coming!! ). Plus it was the best wattage there was and was a nice round £100 (which I could afford at the time)...

AFAIK you could'nt run a TEC for a CPU off of a PSU cause you need a sustained(not peak!) 30AMPs of +12v, it would power an 80watt TEC for a VPU/GPU though...

and also its like you say, they didnt see the radeons coming!
