Some pix of my new waterblock

These haven't actually shipped yet, but they are pix of my block that I ordered custom from BeCooling.
Brian at BeCooling was very cool and patient about the whole deal....especially putting up with my analness and persistant questioning and request.

This is the result of my search for a setup that combines the holddown feature of the swiftnet's MCW462 and the all copper cooling power of the DD Maze2.
As you can see in one of the pix, the 3/8" coldplate is bolted onto the bottom of the waterblock with the TEC sandwiched in between.

I'll post some more pix of these with my own camera once I receive them. Not sure if these pix are showing the block in it's complete and final stage ready to ship or not. He said he had lapped the faces down with 1600 paper so the thing should look like a friggin mirror!

If those screws holding the coldplate and peltier onto the waterblock are metal, theyre gonna be warming the cold plate using the waterblock...are they nylon or something?

Yes, the screws ARE metal.

I believe the amount of heat transfer through the screws will be minimal.

What I see happening when a small amount of heat from the waterblock DOES move to the coldplate is that the waterblock will be COOLED by a small amount.
This means the hot side of the TEC is being cooled off more which means the cold side of the TEC can get colder. Then again, my brain might be made of tofu. Who knows.

All in all, I'm not cerncerned about it.

As far as the screws transferring heat, you won't notice either way at all. However, TECs need A LOT of pressure to operate most efficiently. Because of the way the pelt bolts onto the waterblock, you WILL get that nice, efficient heat transfer which should decrease temps a bit. CK42, looks great!

I do not think that is how it works. Heat is transferred from the water block to the cold plate, therefore the heat load that the peltier has to cool is greater. With a greater load, it will not cool as much. Allow the water to cool the block not the cold plate and peltier.

This reminds me of the cool your room in the summer by leaving the fridge open idea. Heat will be pumped into the fridge from the room air, but that heat will be released back into the room from the radiator on the back of the fridge. You get no cooling benefit, just a waste of energy (and being located in California, I have to be aware of energy conservation

)

I really don't want to starting splitting hairs here but I did notice you forgot about one thing.

When that heat is transfered from the waterblock to the coldplate, this in affect cools the waterblock. So, even tho the TEC nows has a greater head load to cool, it also has the waterblock running a little cooler.

Rest assured! I'll run tests from now till cows fly to prove this once I get the waterblock!! ja, right....

As previously mentioned....splitting hairs!

If you wished to go to the trouble, get nylon bushes and washers to prevent heat transfer. That said, the thermal conductivity for your average steel screw is pretty low compared to copper so it aint gonna do much!

I was working with Brian on a custom block about a week BEFORE the Maze2 was even announced. We had pretty much completed the plans for a waterblock. Then when I saw the Maze2....well, I changed my mind on the design

At the time, DD didn't make what I wanted and I heard that Brian did custom work...so I asked and he abliged. About the only difference bewteen mine and the DD Maze2 is that mine has a 3/8" thick copper coldplate that bolts to the waterblock. I wanted THAT feature PLUS the ability to bolt the waterblock down using the m/b holes.

They don't show this new block of mine because well....it was custom. But, I believe that they ARE going to be selling it shortly.

Also, I promised I would't say anthing so I won't...I'll just hint. Brian is going to be selling another product shortly that is used in the cooling process....not a waterblock, about the only hint I'll give. It looks like it should be very popular and compete EXTREMELY well with one of DDs more popular products.
