Mystery White stuff

mmk, as i was taking out my res/clearflex for putting in of my MCW-50, i noticed the inside of my clearflex was coated with a thin layer of white goop... like a relaly thin layer, but enough to fog up the clearflex. now ive been using rad fluid, and all my coponents are 'copper or brass' so i shant think its oxidisation, the barbs are siliconed onto my res, do you think a bit coulda got loose and pulverised itslef through the cascade? coz my temps are only 1C higher with the MCW-50 in (10c + ambient) idle, i didnt remount the block at all

here is a pic of what i mean, not the huge kinky bit of clearflex (new) which is clean, and the other three tubes are not see through anymore. THe guys at OCAU think it's either the clearflex reacting with some of my water, or fungus' buildup - im using distilled water and rad fluid

I second Boli. Water wetter could have caused that.

Yeah, but unless something neutralized the color, the coolant would be pink.

It could be galvanic corrosion, if nothing was used and there's an aluminium (or other odd metal) component.

It could be algae.

It could be calcium (did you use distilled or tap water?)

While testing my setup after putting new tubing on it, the distilled water I bought apparently left a nice thin layer of calcium deposits on the tubing...

My clearflex did the exact same thing after only a couple weeks of use. I know mine isn't from distilled water or water wetter though, cause I'm using windshield washer fluid in my system. Beats me

You would think, but it turns your tubes into a white mess just lie you get in the picture, the pink colouring disappears, I had a similar problem.

there are however some products which clear tubes like you couldn't believe. i read airspirits article with amazement, but then sighed knowing that finding a product like hyperlube in belgium is quite impossible.

i recently picked up some generic radiator cleanup fluid: says on the bottle to let it cycle through the loop for 45mins, then drain. well, i was swept off my feet to notice that an ever so thin layer of gunk was peeling off the inside of my tubing piece by piece. my pvc tubing went from looking like your tubing, to looking brand new. you would wonder any type of organism wanting to live in the solutions we brew up, but apparently there are some pretty resistant algae.

the product i used was alentra radiator cleaner (google gives nothing, but hey, not everyone is on the internet bandwagon)

An excellent point, g.l.amour.

There may be some residue left on various components, from the fabrication/manufacturing process. These may be reacting with something, and leaving that deposit.

So flushing/cleaning a rig for the first time, before using it, if done properly, could eliminate the problem.

Since it's already in action, I'd try Airspirit's "cleansing solution". (with the necessary precautions)
