No. You still suck. You're just ALLOWED to suck in England now.

Those people don't know how to spell anyway. Everybody knows there's no "U" on color!

LOL!

Yeah, I understood that, but the problem is that it's harder to read. It's hard enough to get someone to read the whole post, so why not make the effort? MY english is pretty good, even though it's a second language to me, but I still occasionally pull out the Webster, to check the spelling of a word, or I copy it into MS Word, for a quick check.

It's also a reflection on you: are you the type of person that pays attention to the details of what you do?

Otherwise, this type of research is good for character/word recognition. It's also an interesting piece of information about english, as a language.

A translation, for those that don't have the patience :

Quote:
According to a research at Cambridge University, it doesn't matter in what order the letters in a word are, the only important thing is that the first and last letter be at the right place. The rest can be a total mess and you can still read it without problem. This is because the human mind does not read every letter by itself, but the word as a whole.

What's interesting is that it isn't really harder to read if you can make your mind stop from thinking "ok there are a lot of typos here I better slow down". You can read it just as fast once you get past that!

What the article doesn't mention though is that it can become REALLY slow going if the words are long and extremely jumbled.

I didn't even have to get by anything pHaestus, I automatically read it at normal speed. Actually, my reading was improved, it made speed reading more difficult (which I always do automatically) so my reading comprehension was improved.

Actually according to "research" lasses read the word as a whole word (like you said) but blokes read the shape of the word... i.e. they have problems reading words that seem to be the same "shape" i.e. IF EVERYTHING WAS IN CAPITALS BECAUSE IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE IT IS SPELT RIGHT.

This of course explains the "rounded" handwriting approach women seem to adopt and blokes tend to a more angular, up down approach.

Though of course according to research "Disco" is not dead.

I showed my wife that document. She's an administrator for the committee at Purdue University that evaluates all proposed research involving human research subjects. She said that she doesn't believe such research would be approved at Purdue. (Dammit)

Her reason was that the risk:benefit ratio would be too high. From that I'd conclude that there must be much more fellatio going on in Canada. That would explain the greater need to gain this knowledge.

Since I'm in the Detroit area, I propose I go test the validity of this. If it is not true, I'll report back tomorrow. If it is true, I'll report back next year.

Sounds good to me!

I had no trouble reading that passage as it was either.... but the stuff that was all capitalized was much harder to read. Interesting.

And colour should be spelled colour, just like aluminium is spelled aluminium, foolish americans .

adding extra u's is just silly, it makes words longer and makes them look funny, and they're spelled different then they sound.

And its Aluminum. It was originally named Aluminum, but then it was changed to Aluminium to make it sound like a metal. Then in the 1950s, us americans realized how ridiculous aluminium sounds, so we changed it back to Aluminum. At that time the US made more aluminum than any other country so therefore we were right and you guys weren't.

This is not about english language, but how human brain works. I recieved the same text in spanish, and the effect was the same.

Actually it is very much about language, written language specifically. What are the odds that this actually works?

If it happens to extend in Spanish, that's even more interesting!

If you want to create your own language, you've got your first tip (Klingon anyone?).

Now it didnt say words that have different letters in them then the word has... Like... take for instance the word instance... it would take longer for someone to figure this word with it spelled this way -
istucane
then
istncane
Our brain does all the work for us if we already know the word itself... it takes the whole word and puts it together subconciencly... or should... although some of our human race is slower then others... or more anal... lol...

I can read it jsut fnie... it desont tkae any tmie for me to do it... agtlolh typing it is a dnefifent sroty all tegothr.... lol

I beleive the original joke was:

"What do you get if you have somebody that is a Dyslexic, Agnostic, Insomniac?

They stay up all night, wondering if there really is a Dog."

You must keep away from saying 'Atheist' Because an 'Atheist' does NOT beleive in god, in any way shape or form. An Agnostic wonders if there is a god, but is not a true beleiver...

Sorry, just needed to clarify it.
