Admin password reset on OS 2.6.050

Hi all! @work I've inherited a 4500 server running on GuardianOS 2.6.050. I've got a newer 4500 as well (running on 4.0.228) with all the documentation. The admin password was lost, so I've reset the server according to the instructions (pressing the reset button). Now the box still refuses to take the user "admin" with passwd "admin" as stated in the "Snap Server Administrator Guide". I've noticed that the admin user on our 2200 was "administrator", not "admin", I've tried that one as well, no luck. It has done the rest of the reset like changing the name back to the original form etc.

Now my question:

Has someone got the documentation for the 2.6.050 version and could check out what the build-in account name should be? And what is the standard passwd after a reset? Should be the one as fresh out-of-the-box...

AFAIK, in order to upgrade to OS4, I'll need the OS3 as a stepping stone from 2.6.050. Or is there a way to go straight to OS4?

Thanks in advance, Martin

System reset should be admin:admin if thats not working then maybe the reset wasnt performed properly?

Taken from the administration guide:

To Invoke Mode 1 Using the Reset Button on Snap Servers 4200, 4500, 15000, or 18000

On Snap Servers 4200, 4500, and 15000 remove the front bezel and press the white button, located to the left of the black power button. On the Snap Server 18000 the reset button is accessed via a small hole next to the power button on the front of the server. Use a small device like a paperclip to push the reset button. The system will reboot after about a minute. As a part of the reset and reboot process, the Snap Server clears user-defined settings such as DHCP configuration, the server name defaults to its factory setting, network speed and bonding settings are returned to their defaults, and the Administrator password is reset to the default (admin). The Snap Server then does a full boot.

Did you try user admin with no password?

OK, after the third reboot I found the problem. The OS 2.6.050 boots into a maintenace mode after a reset. On the page is a link to a secondary page where one can chose which option to reset.
Like the admin password.
Clicking that check-button and restarting the server resulted in the desired effect, the admin account is now usable again...

So if someone should know how to upgrade from OS2.6 to OS4, please give me a hint...

Best, Martin

There is an option on one of the admin screens. Just select the *.gsu file.

A word of caution. The OS is stored on Drive 1. You will need to retain this drive or a copy there of if you ever need to backup.

The best way to get a copy is to set drive setup to JBOD. Remove all drives 2up, marking position on drive. Install new drive in position 2. Reboot. The os will be copied over to drive 2. Power down and remove drive 1, and move drive 2 to 1. Re boot to test drive. The OS takes around 300 meg of disk space, so a storage drive does not need to be very large. Or you could use dd and make a RAW image file of the bood tracks and burn on CD. I know of no one that has tried this with the Guardian OS.

If good. Remove and install all drive you want to use.

Is there a way to run JBOD on a 4500??? There isnt on the 4400's. And from my phone conversation today with snap/adaptec the 4400 is a 4500 and visa versa.

Just remove the RAID configuration/setup, that is all needed.
