Default Snap Server 4000 "No Link" Bad NIC?

I have a SS 4000, had it for a couple years, all of a sudden I cannot get a link when plugging in a network cable, everything else seems to be fine. I have reset the server and still nothing...any ideas?

Any of you guys know if the NIC is replaceable?

When you reset the Snap, did you use assist to locate and do the inital setup?
This is required due to the fact the IP is set to 0.0.0.0 which will not show up on the router logs.

A 4000 should have web interface with no drives, but NO link.

Does the disk led blinks normal like disk activity during startup?

Does the Sys led blink every ~2 sec?

The only think I can think of is: No SYS or Disk LED actifity = failed System Board

If all execpt LINK, may try replacing the lan controller chip. But that's not a given. It would be cheaper to buy a used unit from ebay for parts.

"Sys" and "Disk" lights are perfect, flashes yellow for the disk and every 2 seconds for the sys.

So, even with no "Link" light I should be able to connect via Snap Assist or via the web browser?

Thanks again...

NO,

The Link light should be solid and the net blink during activity.

Are you connecting through a router?

or Direct Connect?

I am actually using a crossover cable and have even tried connecting through a small linksys hub with a regular patch cable also.

Thanks for the info, even though its starting to look like bad news...:-(

Questions:

1: Any way to get the info off of the drives?
2: Any ideas where I could buy another Systemboard?
3. Are the drives compatible with any other SS Models?, maybe I can throw them in another SS just to get the info off of the drives?

You mentioned changing out the netowrk card in an earlier post, is that a feasible solution and where can I get one from, Ebay?, somewhere else?

Thanks again

The 4000 uses a software raid.

There are 2 different boards that I know of, 4 rev.

I've seen 4000 going on ebay for around $100 w/o drives.

Here is a link to a site that purchased some of snaps old parts. Cheaper on ebay.

As far as recovery. We get asked this all the time. The problem with all raids is that they all use a different way to calculate parity. So you basicly have to install the drives in another 4000. Make sure you mark the drives and put them in the same position.

The network chip, there is no card. And it is surface mount. And it may not be that, just a guess.

ok, I'll start looking around. Are the Dell Powervault products compatible?, I see the web interface and appearance are the same. Can I use one of those to throw my drives into just to get the data off?

If so, which model should I go for?

Thanks again!!

The 705n are the same as a 4100. The 4100 do not support hd >137 gig. The 4000 is sought after the most due to support for HD > 137 gig.

I would stick to the 4000 model. I do not know if a 4100 will work, it has a hardware raid. Where the 4000 has a software raid.

Gotcha, thanks for all of the advice. If I replace the systemboard OR take the drives and put them in a replacement chassis from eBay, will my data still be there and in tact?

Thanks again....

Yes All of your data should be in tact.

The 4000 supports JBOD, so you will need to make the change before swaping drives out.

Correct me if im wrong, The 4100 does not have the JBOD option....
