Default Upgrade to and old Snap Server 2000

I have a old Snap Server. Here is the details.

SnapOS = 2.0.279
Hardware = 1.1.0
BIOS = 1.2.180
Serial # = 25777

I haven't seen any post for a Snap Server 2000 with info as old as mine. I would like to upgrade the hard drives. I understand that they must by < 137MB because of my hardware, so a couple to seagate 120MB will do just fine. Do I need to update my BIOS as well? I would also like to upgrade to SnapOS 3.4.805. I need the OS, the website has 4.0.860. I seen where that version (4.0.860) has issues with systems with serial numbers < 26xxx. I'd need the BIOS also if I need to upgrade it as well.

Thanks,
David

The v1 2000 does not play well with v4. Stop at v3
You have the latest BIOS, there is not a newer one for that model.

Thanks blue68f100 for confirming my thoughts on my upgrade. Can you help me locate SnapOS 3.4.805? Thanks.

Sorry can't help you with the OS. Don't give copyrighted software away. It's a shame Adaptec has been releasing the older version to some users. But most do not get it due to the age of their units. SnapAppliance released it to anyone that registered.

Adaptec made their reputation on SCSI then rode the bubble as long as it would last. They bought SnapAppliance wanting to get into the NAS bussiness. Now they are killing SnapAppiance reputation. They don't realise that people that buy these units were people that worked with them in corporations. Now that they are running these people off they are (or soon will be) on a downward spiral. They don't realise what say so these people have.

Now after finding out that they are installing Maxtor's HD in $5000 NAS, I would return them for WD RE drives. Maxtor has the highest failure rate in the bussiness. Not what I want my data on.

Since I can not locate OS 3.4.805, would the OS I currently have (SnapOS 2.0.279) support two 120gb hard drives.

The BIOS does but if I recall from other users, NO. May need to install a large drive and were where it caps it.

Those who have found the OS use BT. Which I do not have/use.

Never mind. I assume that BT is bit torrent. I did find a 3.4.805 file with a ".sup" extension. The update utility I have (from my CD that came with the Snap Server) requires a .hex, or am I doing it the wrong way?

Version 2 does not have the upgrade option you must use assist v802 or greater.

And it may require the HD to be re-formatted.

The real old system used a different utility to upgrade with. Every machine had its own HEX file. The newer OS has the option to upgrade built in.

I don't what to be a pain in the butt, but you say that I must use assist v802 or greater. I'm not sure what you mean. You also said that I may have to re-format the drives, that's OK. I have a backup of the data.

I must have one of the real old systems because my update utility is asking for a .hex file. Does this mean that I can't upgrade to a new OS if I can find one.

Tsk Tsk Tsk, yet one more of the multitudes who desire a program (i.e. Assist in this case) and yet set their profile to be private, where nobody can reach them and help out. Oh well...

Assist v802 shipped with v3.4
Assist v829 with v4
