Well it's not that simple.
I upgraded to version 4 (from 3) and all was OK on the version 2 2000. I opened it up and replaced the battery, put in new WD drives (160s) and the power and link lights stay on steady, the net light flashes, but no disk light. I can't find the 2000 either in my DHCP status on the router or in Assist. I tried putting the original 40 gig drives back but the story is the same. I tried with no drives, nada. I can't reset the server either, the lights stay on. The CPU fan works, as does the power fan. The drives start running and the indicator lights come on for a few seconds. Any thoughts on where to go from here? |

Did you install the battery upside down? Must be good before the snap will boot.
On the new HD's did you set the jumper correctly ??? Try doing a factory reset. Then use assist to setup. The OS is stored in flashram. On newley installed HD's it takes ~10 min before you can access the admin interface. Try doing a quick format of the 160's before re-installing.

Thanks for the thoughts.
Battery is in correctly and checks out for proper voltage. I even tweaked he contacts. I tried the WD's at CS, single master and nothing came up for 20 minutes each time. Other drive changes I've done on the 2000 showed disk activity. I put the old drives in and still the same. The unit will not reset by the button. This is the first time I've done a battery replacement. I'll be surprised if I fried somthing because I've done 5 of these 2000's so far, including a 4 drive raid 5. Is there another reset that I'm missing? |

It was the ram.
I had a stick from a 2000 that I changed to a 4000 and bingo. Drive lights, reset, it all works. If your power and link light stay on steady but the drive lights don't work, check the ram. I love these things. |
