I'd like to upgrade a 4400 or 4500 to 750GB drives. Does anyone know if they will work with the Guardian OS? {I do know 500G drives are OK).

LOL, I told you this in e-mail. Don't trust me?
The 4400, 4200, 4500, 15000 do not have a HD limit I am aware of. There is a 21TB limit for the file system, but since there are no 5 TB drives out there I am aware of either, then this effectively means no limit. There are 1TB drives now, but none in PATA (EIDE) that I have seen yet, so this means 750 GB drives. I know the above listed units will support 4 x 750 GB drives (been there, done that), at least with Guardian OS 4.2.054 and above (never tried it with an older OS, so can't say for sure on them). Now you have heard it from me twice... ![]()

Speaking of Guardian Snap Servers on eBay (where you got one of yours from)...
I have one last Snap 4500 up on eBay. It is the last one I plan on selling for a while (if any more at all). You all know (or should by now), that I know my hardware and don't sell junk. This unit has 4 x Western Digital RE 250 GB drives installed (these are enterprise class drives and what Dave and I always recommend to people). These drives are even still under warranty from Western Digital. The unit has been tested top to bottm and works sweet. The OS is the most recent Guardian OS 4.4.049 SP2, which we all know from here on the forum is a frickin' $600 upgrade. Between the OS and the Hard Drives, they alone cost what I am asking for the Snap 4500. If you want a nice Guardian 4500, this is it... Last one I have to sell. Get it now... http://cgi.ebay.com/SNAP-APPLIANCE-S...QQcmdZViewItem Sorry for the blatent advertising, but I need the money and I know there are people here who want a Snap 4500.... ![]()

Thanks for the reinforcement & detail P32.
What I was looking for on this forum was someone who had actually done the upgrade with the 750G drives (before I spent the $). Your email didn't have all of this detail. Footnote to all: I'm a customer of P32's. He is reputable and stands behind what he sells! |

Do a search for "750gig" drives and see what show up. I only recall 1, most of us don't have the money to spend $$$ on the latest hardware. There is no know limit to the Guardian OS (v4+) that we know of except the 21gig. Infact I think Adaptec has started selling the newer models with the higher capacity drives. Which tell you there's not one.

David and Lightx, I did one with 750's (for someone else who paid for them). No problems at all, went like clockwork. So it is verified with 750 GB drives. I tried it in both a 4500 and 4400 and with OS 4.2.054 and up.
Thank you for the kind words Lightx (He is talking about me when he says P32 in case you didn't figure it out). I do try hard to help and provide good stuff. BTW, that last Snap 4500 has a bid on it (taking away the buy-it-now option). Meaning, it will sell. So if any of you wanted one, better get on it now.
