Snap 1100 Won't Power up

I have an old Quantum Snap 1100 for home use. It worked well for years then about a year ago it suddenly would not power up. After many failed attempts of troubleshooting the issue, I put in my desk drawer thinking I'd pull the data off it another day.

Last week I saw the snap server and decided to give it another try. I plugged it in and it instanly came on. I had acces to the data files and everything.

Before I could pull all the files I wanted, the plug in the back was accidently pulled out and it killed the power instantly to the server. Now it will not turn back on. I did try leaving it unplugged overnight but to no avail.

Any thoughts on what the problem may be and how to fix?

Could be that the battery needs to be replaced.

It's more than likly it's the switch. Just push and wiggle it an see if it will come back. Some say you have to hold your mouth just right, there very tempermental. I had one that was doing the same thing. Use the little hooks on the back to keep from pulling the power cord out.

I replaced the battery and wiggled and wiggled the power button. Didn't work. Any other ideas?

Have you confirmed the PS is good... Dead motherboard..... I have a 1100 here right now that has the similar problem and it drops the net connection. There are fuses on the MB. They look like wire loops, 4 in a row, about 3/16" wide and 1/2" tall. Located just above the screw hole, next to the power supply jack.

I found the fuses, the "hoop" part of all four are intact. I assume that means they are good?

My guess is a bad switch, being it has a mind of it's on. or Bad MB. Since it set a long time i'm leaning toward bad switch. They were not design for heavy use, since the unit was design for 24/7 operation.

What's the best way to swap out the switch? Do I just snap out the current one and sodder a new one to the same connectors? Any suggestions on where to get a replacement one?

I don't know if you can find the switch. Phoenix32 was looking for one for his. You should beable to test it, and/or bypass using a jumper wire(s). I do not know but I think it's only a std contact that trips a signal on a TTL.

I didn't find one, but honestly, I didn't spend that much time looking.

It sounds like the switch to me. Sounds just like my 1000. Don't assume just cause you wiggled it a couple times you can't get it. I have to press and wiggle mine like a 500 times to get it to go. Good thing I don't use it often.

Do I just connect the jumpwire between the two points on the motherboard that the switch connected to?

If that doesn't work, can I buy a Snap 1100 off eBay and just plug my drive into the working model? If so, can I use an Apadtec model vs. the Quantum I have now? Also could an Snap 1000 be used? Any other considerations?

Yes,

The 1100 models have the OS on the HD so any 1100 should work. There are actually 3-4 different rev of the 1100 model.

The 1000 model is not a good choice, the cpu is slower, less ram and the OS is in flashram depending on which rev you get. So it could over write your HD.

The only other model that can be used is the 2200. Doing so would require the the unit to be in JBOD prior to installing your HD. Then you can install in in the drive2 position, and can copy the data over. Once the data has been transfered over, the HD needs to be wiped clean so the correct OS can be installed.

Connect you 1100 through a UPS and run it 24/7 once you get it started. I never shut down my 2200, just make sure you have the email alert setup. If your ISP require auth it will not work, then you must snmp traps.
