All--
I had to fix one of my Guardian based units with a drive image from one of my other units. I have the server fixed, but, all of my licensed features are all unlicensed now. I have a tree backup of the old unit, so, I might still have the keys embedded in the old tree... Does anyone know how to transfer them to the new install ??? (more accurately... does anyone know where they are stored ??? I am sure I can get them transferred if they are not embedded in a binary...)... I am sure I can make this work without this info, but, I would rather utilize than analyze these days... 25+ years of computer science can leave you kind of numb... |

Not me, being a hardware guy rather than software guy.

They seem to be imbedded in: /etc/flapi.xml.... I will post later if I am able to recover my features... EDIT:: *yes* .... the above file contains most, if not all of the keys.. Just cut and paste into the GUI and you are all set... Problem solved... Thanks for listening..... Last edited by netwraith; 01-07-2008 at 07:29 PM. |

Good info to know. Wonder how I missed this thread yesterday.
What OS version are you using? The reason I ask is some of the debug cmd no longer work in v4.4. v4.1 was OK.

Will likely work with 4.4.x if you take the boot drive and mount it on a Linux machine and read it that way.... The only thing you need to know is that the Linux box needs to have the XFS filesystem available and active in the kernel (either by loadable module or native compile).. Slackware is known to have this capability out of the box... For manual type people: It's slice number 2... the mount command could be: (assuming that hard drive to be mounted is master on a tertiary controller) mkdir /mount_point mount -t xfs /dev/hde2 /mount_point primary controller master -- hda primary controller slave -- hdb ..... etc .... Lastly.... some add in paddle cards will supercede the onboard IDE/EIDE controllers and as such will be primary (and secondary if existing) instead of tertiary (and quadronary if existing).. controllers.... your mileage may vary.... to be sure, check the system logs with the dmesg command after you boot. Just look for the added drive and be sure that the boot drive has not been displaced as master... Last edited by netwraith; 01-08-2008 at 01:29 PM. |

BTW:
I have been working with a USB stick as a Guardian OS repair and update method. Initial efforts with my 4500 have been very encouraging.. (The 4500 boots off of the USB stick)... I have used it in conjunction with another running SnapServer to reload a broken disk set.... Was really a piece of cake... I will post the whole tech diary when I have it all worked out... |
