I have a snap server 2200. Right now I have a drive in it that works just fine. 250 gig etc etc.
Now my concern is that I put another 100 gig 7200 in it and the disk seems to reset for some reason. It makes weird noises. Like a pinging sound. If it was a power issue would not both drives and the unit itself reset by some manner? I have a computer powersuppy (250 Watt) modified as a power adapter for the snap server. One would think that this would be more then enough power to power this device? Does the snap server itself put limits on the power? If not do you think I need a bigger PS? WebDawg |

Noise from a HD may indicate a bad HD. The snaps 2200 PS is 4-5watt on 12v. The only concern would be spinup. After that it should be fine. These units are design for 24/7 operation. Starting and stopping them on a daily bases is not good. Particularly on the PS.
My guess would be the 100 gig has bad bearings, pulling every thing down. I'm running 2 300gigs in my 2200. It has been up for over 2.5-3 yrs now. And only shutdown twice in the whole time. But my Smart-UPS can carry my system for 1.75 hr. Or till the batteries reach low condition. Then all of my servers are shut down. And auto started (except 2200) after the batteries reach a 25% charge.

Yes, but the little cheap push button switch will fail from over use. But you can solder on 2 wires and make a maunal sw.

Not that this is your problem, but just a reminder of other things that have to be considered. |
