I'm a new user here. Discovered the forums while trying to troubleshoot a snap1100 unit in place at a local hardware store.
The hard drive stopped spinning up in the snap server. I replaced it with a new western digital 80gb drive and the system wouldn't come up on the network. Never in a million years would I have guessed the OS for the server was stored on the hard drive. I assumed it was stored in flash ram on the system board (seems some do store the OS this way). I would clone the data to the new drive but the original is dead so basically it's a worthless unit until I can get a copy of the OS boot image. I know the OS itself is copyrighted but the owner paid over $2k for this unit initially and paid for the OS that was on it. Now since it's gettin a little age on it Adaptec refuses to provide support and wants a ridiculous amount of money for a replacement drive. I have searched google for a while now and have come up with nothing regarding the binary file to wite to the new drive. If anybody can provide me a private link to the boot image I need to get the server back up and running I would be very grateful. |

That the problem with the bin file is that it contains the OS which is protected under copyright laws. My suggestion to you is search the BT sites. If you have another snap, you could copy its boot tracks. Some have purchased backup snaps from eBay to get a hold of it. A 2200.bin file will work with most 1100.
You confirmed that the drive will not spinn up, so have you tried swapping controller cards (must be the same). You may try sealing the HD in ziplock bag and put it in the freezes for 30 min, then see it it will spin up. I have even gave them a tap to unstick them.

Heck with it, I am never gonna use it again. Send me a PM with an offer for my Snap 1000 (with the newest OS on it already). I might as well let someone get it that is going to use it. And yes, it works...

What, your going to let your FTP server (never/sometimes serve) go. It's probably the only OS out there that hackers have trouble hacking.

Heh, I figure with all the Guardian Snap Servers I have and several 2K03 Servers, I gotta be able to make due somehow right?
But I think it is a moot point, he did not make an offer, so it will sit there a while I guess. |
