I have an old Snap Server 1000 10GB that I did not use for several years. Now I can't access the data stored on the server anymore.
I reseted the server already twice but it seems that it gets no ip address from my DHCP server. I had the old ip address noted on the device and set my network to this adress range, but still could not find it in my network. I then removed the harddisk and inserted it into an Icybox. But Windows cannot access the harddrive. What options do I have? I dont have the driver cd anymore so I can't install the server utility mentioned in the manual I found online. What can I do? |

After a reset you need to run assist to do the initial setup for the network. But installig it in a windows machine you may just lost your chance to boot it. If the sys led is blinking at a steady rate, 1 -2 every couple of sec it's booting just needs the Nic setup with assist. If your getting a 1 x 2 led pattern awaiting for DHCP server means you damaged the MBR and OS. f this is the case you may need to turn if over to a recovery service to retrive the data. Or you can try SpinRite but if windows changed anything it's toast. Some of the early 1000 have the OS in firmware, if this is the case you can upgrade the HD, but your existing data is lost.
You may want to read the FAQ's link in my signature.

Thank you very much for your answer. The system LED is steadily blinking, 1 second green, 1 second off, 1 second green and so on. Where can I get this assist utility? At
http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/support...p_Server_1000/ I could not find it. Sadly I lost the original install cd over the years. |

Adaptec was giving it out on request, but you can find Dell's version on their web site. It the same thing with just the logo change. Sorry I don't have the link.

Thank you again very much. After some hard looking I found the cd! But I still can't connect to my Snap Server. I think it may be a network problem. I connected the device to my router that has a DHCP server built in.
The network LED is blinking randomly, but most of the time it's off. I tried different network cables, different ports on my router and different computers where I started the assist utility. But the window stays empty. I searched with Angry IP Scanner but it found nothing. Does the device use some kind of fall back IP address that I could look for? Or can I maybe find it through it's MAC address? |

The fall back is 0.0.0.0 which is not reachable. If you upgraded the OS your version of assist may not locate it. SnapAppliance (quantum) wrote a special protocol to locate and do the initial setup. The net will blink on activity, the link led should be solid if the port has power.
