Snap Server 410 CPU heat specifications ??

Guys:

I have a new 410 1TB unit that runs 145 degrees Fahrenheit under load. This is way more than my 4400 or 4500 units.

How much is too much here ???

According to Qhwmon , 85C is the high limit. (or 185 F)... Way too hot for my tastes, so, I think I am gonna get out the fan box and see what I have available to cool it a bit more.

My 4500 seldom gets over 105F and my 4400 will sometimes exceed 110F for a few moments, but, it's never for too long...

185 is enough to cook with.... Ouch!

BTW, the newer Snap Servers use AMD processors (yuk)

I have never had a problem with AMD... They have been around as long as Intel and do the engineering right.

Now, are all parts equal??... certainly not, but, I would rather have the Athlon-64/Opteron over any of the P4/Netburst processors (which they competed head-2-head with)...

Nowadays, if you want CPU power and crunch ability, you need the CORE2 Intel... Want to move a lot of data around or have a great general purpose server??, the HyperTransport AMD is your ticket...

As someone once said... get software that does what you need and then buy what it runs on. That is what makes the market big enough for more than one (or two) CPU manufacturers... Not all CPU's work well with all software.

BTW... the 410 is a Centaur HAULS processor (VIA Esther) @ 2ghz... Built in Crypto engine, but, a bit anemic for a NAS server... oh well... Price was definately righteous...

The theory is good, but in practice, not so good...

We can agree to disagree me thinks...

FYI, my main beef is not with the CPU itself (mostly), it's about the inferior chipsets.
