Jaydee, you know where to add another inlet I'd be very interested to see the performance differance, 13C over ambient isn't too good compared to some of your previous blocks is it?

fix, feel like emailing me that bmp? _otama_@_ihug_.co.nz (ignore the ___'s, we all know why they are there )

Actually it isjust a few degrees C warmer than my best ones. I ususally get about 5-8C over water temp and 8-11C over room temp. The temps HAVE changed over night though. All the air is out of the system and everything has settled in and the temp dropped 1C to 12C over room temp. It is 26C in here now and the CPU is 38C load. Actually not to bad. i need to hook up the water temp probe again though. I have it siliconed into a T right now for 1/2" hose setup and my hose for this block is 3/8".

Once I get finised with my Spiral this weekend and it works I will take the mill apart and replace whatever I need to to make it stop vibrating and then i can continue to finish all the blocks I have started. Only water block #1 and 2 are finished blocks. The rest need work.

Just an FYI for you JD - even though they have removed the requirement for the holes in the motherboard, they left the component height restriction areas exactly as they were (as of 3/27/02 rev of their documentation) - meaning that the area available for the outer dimensions of the blocks has remained the same

How do you attach a clip if the block covers the socket hooks and then some?

The bits for clip attachment are on the other 2 sides Looking at the top of the socket it's sorta like this -

..H..
C...C
..H..

where the Cs are the sides for clip attachment and the Hs are the sides where the holes use to be. So you can make them just as wide as before along the H-to-H dimension. You weren't ever suppose to go past the clip attachment points in the C-to-C dimension, even with the holes.

If you want the actual pic, download this document and go to page 12. It's exactly the same as before, except the holes are missing from the top and bottom outside areas.

make a v shapped bracket that will grab all the socket lugs. Then have it span over the whole size of the block. Maybe bolt to the block. Equal on both sides. this will distribute the force evenly.

*Beats Head off Wall*

Wasn't thinking to well tonight. Long day at work. For some stupid reason I was picturing the block covering the clip hooks on the socket. I see it is the other way around.

One question though that i have been pondering is how wide is to wide before it dosn't matter anymore. The core of the CPU is only so big. So if you go way past it on both sides where is the limit to where it stops helping? Did that make sence?

BTW -

Fixitt (or anyone else reading this) - do you have much experience with/knowledge about small diameter (4" or less) saws that can a) cut copper well b) do precise, repeatable placement cuts (even if done via a jig) c) can use very thin blades (preferably different thicknesses) and d) don't cost two arms and a leg?

Additional qualifiers - cutting depths of 1" maximum needed, complete clearance of the body of the saw from the face being cut, and precise depth control of the cuts (again, jig use acceptable).

Oh, and not a Dremel either

JD - that completely depends on the block design, but the short answer is you won't reach that point in the space allocated by AMD. That said, the bigger the block the heavier it is, but in the case of your aluminum blocks, nbd. Two of the things that extra space can be useful for is the placement of the exit fitting(s) and holes for cold plates in the case of peltier use.

I can touch all 4 sides of my blocks and they are cool, Just wondering where the point is that it starts becoming warm so I can use as little material as possible and still get decent performance.

The spiral I have planed will have a lot of extra space on the sides because of the circular pattern and only a 2" wide peice of metal. It will be very similar to the 1/4" Gemini Spiral size wise. I was thinking about doing just like they did with the mounting holes in the lexan top plate, but it will not be that much more to just use a regular size block and use it for the mounting holes aswell.

Fixitt sent me a kickass looking block design. I bet that would sell like mad if he ever made it!!!

Another question is the Center inlet really all that much better? I know the circular block I did it made a huge difference but I am not so shure about other blocks.

Bahh!!! To many things to figure out!!!

Yeah, you got plenty to do.

I need to settle down and "finish" some of my current blocks. I keep getting new ideas and leaving the other ones sitting on the table. They all work about the same exept the circular one. That one has me semi exited as to its future. It did really well. After I do this Spiral that curiosity of actually having one in my hands will finally go away and I can work on my other blocks.

Still not sure WTF is up with the version of ACAD2000 I got. Right when you start insatalling it it stopps and pops up a box saying it is incompatible with this OS and only supports 98 and NT. I must have got an early version of it is all I can figure.
