If you think about it, how much is really in the cost of the materials? Maybe 5 bux worth of copper, 3 bux for the acrylic top and screws, 10 cent for the rubber gasket?
Most of the money goes to the sweat used to make it(doesnt a machine make it?). If I had a mill, I would make my own, but alas, just as I dont have a tv building factory, I have to buy those too....

well plus u gotta factor in the r&d time for the block, the time they took to make the code for the cnc machine (they use their own cnc or just have it made somewhere else?) its real cheap considering, they might be making a loss perblock so that they can get volume

it's more than $5 for the copper. $40 - $60 per block depending on options is about right imho. A good heatsink is nearing this cost, and that price is fairly competitive compared to other blocks. I wouldn't want to see a pricing war form between block companies, it will just force the smaller makers out fairly quickly

Im sure they can do better than that with the copper pricing, but the r&d is a valid arguement.

case in point, http://www.dangerden.com/mall/metal_stock.asp
