a year now huh? i think mine died......within 6 months of when i bought it. it got sent to maylasia, and i got it back a week later, plugged it, and it died AGAIN! 2 weeks later. ibm says theyll replace it with a 60GXP drive but.....those are failing almost as much as the 75GXPs are. so i say screw them until the lawsuit goes through, then ill get myself another nice 120GB maxtor drive and have some fun with the on-board raid on my motherboard.

Also I've recommended lots of my friends to buy IBM drives because of quality, I have daily contact with 5 of them (2 75GXP, 2 60GXP and 1 120GXP) which all have perfect service records (Longest being 8 months and the newest being just above 2 weeks old.).

IBM is starting to SUCK
this last week at work I had to RMA 6 IBM workstations that just stopped working out of no where... and we had 2 IBM servers die in the last 2 weeks. This is the reason I am spearheading Moving Dell into the states DA network and getting IBM out. IBM's customer support has dissapeared... now its only finger pointing, or pointless arguments.

i have a packard bell monitor from 1989 that still works PERFECTLY, my vote goes to IBM becuase, while trying to fix an old 1995 aptiva, i noticed that the list price on their website for a new motherboard and processor (supposedly the only parts that fit in this case) was almost $1700 US dollars, not to mention that when i called tech support, they seemed to have forgotten that they made that kind of computer

Most of my OEM experience comes with servers as opposed to workstations - and I must say that Dell and Compaq make very nice servers. And I guess I'll be working with HP servers now since they bought Compaq (and we were in a contract with Compaq to only buy their stuff) - but from what I've seen they'll be keeping the Compaq Proliant line - so I like them still.
For worst - I had the bad fortune to have to work on a Packaged Hell once. It only took me an hour and a 1/2 to put a second HD into it. It gets my vote. |

I believe that 95% of anyone who has worked on or owned a Packard Bell would vote them. I couldn't ****ing stand them. Considering HP and Compaq have always been like brothers even before their merger talks and what not, I don't seperate them. If either one is better then the other, I'd say HP. They have gadgets. I like compaq though, simply because they bring jobs to Houston. Dell, as of late though....sucks.

Sorta an invalid poll, OEM for what product(s).
For Computers, they all suck, we haven't bought a desktop since the 386 days...except this piece of crap Micron to hold my mom over for awhile. Sony's CD products suck Toshiba's CD products I like, got a 12x SCSI thats still kicking. IBM...hard drives anyone? Compaq/Packard Bell, none of our products are compatible with any of your hardware or Windows HP(not personal experience, but i've replaced a few things on a friend's sister's computer...What? Replace everything again! Dell, dude, you broke the internet server... Gateway, what is tech support? I need to become an EE and have a fab in my backyard so I only can complain about my own work.

Why are acers and emachines absent from the list? Oh, well, I'll have to throw my vote in for dell (duddddddddde, I'm so not getting a dell...)...

dell's accutally THE best when it comes to OEM. at least if you think of their new DImension 8200 series. Now that i call USER-FRIENDLY. but the Optiplex series still suck. really hard. dont forget deep.
at least the come with 2/3 pci places free... :/

The experiences that I've had with dell were back in the "old days," I think that it was a 200 MHz I was repairing for a friend, ugg. I now have the mainboard in a special drawer, waiting for Episode 2, attack of the hammer
![]() They are not so bad now, but the only OEMs I've had contact with in the past while are Acers and E machines (I did work on a HP, but not enough to warrent a "hate rating"). I h8 acers (at least the way they are built), they are so user unfriendly, the case has vampire tendacys, and everything is either screwed, rivited, welded, or glued in! It took me 1.5 hrs to replace a bad heatsink fan (not kidding, also sliced open my hands several times)!!! E Machines are not all that bad, they just leave something to be desired in the area of preformance, and quality. Already replaced the PSU fan (which was a pain), and completely reworked the system several times. Don't get me wrong, they are nice computers, but I'd rather build my own! Ok, that is enough ranting for now...

Dell is the only option when it comes to servers... I have been burned by IBM about 15 times this year on both workstations and servers... Dell has treated us right, with some killer hardware, cheap prices, awesome support, and overall great represenstation by their company.
( not to meantion their sales reps rock to go out drinking and playing pool with ![]()

I voted packard hell......BUT ONLY because the worst machine currently built isnt on the list.......E-Machines.
I am the guy that gets to go fix the issues that arise when cable modem installation techs have problems and cant resolve them...... E-machines really SUCK and account for the largest portion of my headaches.......Note the E stands for ERROR......

Compaq. Short Warranties. Shitty Products.
My Presario 1685 (Laptop!) couldnt even pass 5 minutes of a prime95 torture test. That and I was forced to RMA it within the first year over a shitty voltage converter/battery charger. When I peered through the open PCMCIA slot I saw a 1mm gap between the ultra-fat-foam-TIM and the processor (k6-2). Since have tried everything I can to improve the thing but it's still a POS. -ymboc |

I voted for Packard Bell. They're long gone in my area, but the horrid memories still haunt me.
