Default Resurrecting a Snap1000

I'm trying to resurrect a Snap1000 that I received with no hard drive.

Snap Server 1000
Model # 70700204-002 (40GB)
Serial # 133178

Snap Assist Version 2.3.417

Long story short.. Adaptec says it's too old for getting any support on.

I have tried to install a new drive (10GB) and ended up at the Bad OS Blinks
(1 sys / 2 disk)

I've tried probing for it using Snap Assist as snap133178 to no effect..
(net light flashes but no servers found)

I've read through the forums and found that I cant just dd the
Snap 3.4.805 sup file I found on a floppy with it to a virgin disk.

Can anybody offer any other suggestions for making this puppy work or am
I the proud owner of a 3.5 pound doorstop?
(If so I'm gonna fill it with lead to make it a REAL doorstop,
3.5 pounds is too light for the winds we get here.)

Thanks in Advance.

The v2 1000 has the os stored on the hd. The only way to revive it is to preload the hd with the help of a image file. The Snap OS occupies around 25meg of the hd. If your HD spins up sometime you can retrive enough to boot it, ~15meg. Or copy the boot tracks from another working snap. Instructions located in the wiki section.

Thanks for the quick reply,

So it's a V2 (That I was not sure of) and I have to track down another one
to dd the first 25-30 meg of the drive into a raw file so I can then dd it to the
new drive and pray it boots.
(If it does I'm burning the image to a mini-CD and sticking it in the case.)

This could take a while as I live in an area where I'm considered a genius
because I can find Power and Reset buttons and I'm not afraid to use them.

I found a reference to a "Snap Up" exe that is supposed to broadcast the .sup file
to update the server, Can I use that plus the 3.4.805.sup I have to do this?
(I tried the 5x reset trick and it's waiting for data.)

Alternately, anybody out there got a spare 1000 V2 with 3.4.805 they can crack
open and do the dd deed for me?

Snapup.exe runs on NT4.0 ONLY, does not work with XP. I've tried it to try recovery of a 1100 that someone tried to turn into a 2000. It was/IS stuck in the 1 x 2 led pattern that can not be undone, looking for hw that is not there. I took the time to setup a NT4.0 network, what a nighmare that was, not going there.

If you have v3.4.805 you just need something to boot the snap, then you can update it.

Default Did I just find a new/unlisted diagnostic mode?

OK.. Here's what appears to be a new one.. At least I didn't find it in

http://wiki.procooling.com/index.php...r_LED_Patterns

http://wiki.procooling.com/index.php...e_LED_Patterns

or

http://wiki.procooling.com/index.php/Snap_Server_Resets

The sequence to initiate this mode seems to be ..

1. Unplug power from drive.

2. Press and hold power and reset.

3. Re-insert power cord and quickly release power button .

This leaves my V2 with the System and Disk LEDs alternately flashing at
about 2 Hz. (back and forth like a train crossing and about the same speed)

The Link LED is following the link status as I plug and unplug the cable.
and the Net LED is flashing when I probe with Snap Assist.

My question is this,

Did I find an undocumented mode or did I just confuse the hell out of it?

What you are doing is confusing the hell out of it. They do not link and power hickups like any other pc. All snaps will blink when probed with assist. But if it's has not booted to a stage that it can respond, you have nothing.

You need a image file to load on the had to make it work.

If you are tring to reset it you have not done it correctly.
