tom says that the Seagate Barracuda IV idles at 50dba wtf?? is tom just smokin crack again, or is there something i dont understand? i cant even hear my cuda at idle. |

I think they measure at 6 inches away inside a box with only the HD in it.
Since most everyone has their HD inside of a case sitting a few feet away will make the drive much more quiet. I have noticed that my 40G WD hard drive is much louder than my other HD's. |

but wtf... 26 is like super quiet... and the barracudas were supposed to be at right around that
like i said, i cant even hear my cuda at idle (ourside the case) how could it possibly be 50 dba |

if you have a cuda just put your box under your desk... my friend has 4 of them, doesnt hear anything but a nice humm, and the heads occasionally

You do realize cuda's are the quietest drives made (aside from solid state of course)? There is absolutly no need to put your machiune under your desk with these in it, in fact putting your machine under your desk for any hard drive is rather rediculious.
edit: Besides we all know Tom is a f****** idiot anyway.

thanks for the hostility diesel.........
was just a suggesstion. friends of mine have systems with 4 127mm Nidec 190cfm fans in there systems, and the best way other than soundproofing the box to suppress the noise was to just put it under their desks. |
