How well do they work? I've always been a bit wary of compression fittings. Would be bad to screw it down and break the hose. |

Using those would strictly be for the looks, nothing else, so it's really up to you. The pressures involved in a water cooling loop are pretty low, to where you just barely need hose clamps, just for safety (accidental tugging).
It's a nice looking touch though. I considered them myself, but the price is putting me off. You don't have to worry about the hoses being damaged: these fittings are extremely popular all over Europe, and work extremely well. |

Mabye the biggest advantage of these is that they are a neat way to cover the ragged ends of braided hose. I have used and seen a lot of them (or similar ones) on race cars where flexible hoses have to be the braided type. The ones I used were Aeroquip brand, but same principle.
They are reusable and probably don't even need the spanner wrenches for the pressures of a W/C system (finger tight should do).
